Sparkle and shine

It was my younger daughters 43rd birthday the other day (it is so hard to get my head around that), and I made her this card:

Everything is foiled, I do love foiling these days. The flower spray (spellbinders) is foiled onto white coated card and lightly coloured with alcohol markers. It was cut with the matching die and mounted onto a black panel that I first cut with a frame die (Lisa Horton) and then foiled with a tiny heart cover plate die (Sunny Studio). You can't see it very well in the photo above, but it shows a little better in the other pictures.

The birthday sentiment is by Alex Siberia. It has a matching shadow die so I mounted the foiled element onto the white shadow to help it stand out. The happy is also foiled onto the same white coated card. I mounted the panel onto a white mat and then onto a pink cardbase.

You all know how hard it is to photograph shiny things, but I hope the pictures do give you an idea. I was very pleased with it in the end. I also used the heart cover die to cut the detail on the insert.

I can hear it getting windy again. We had a big storm pass on Sunday night and now on Tuesday, there is another one heading our way. Our house sits on top of a hill so we are always impacted by wind, it is really distressing to hear it howling round the building. Especially at night.

I am sharing this at:
Double D Jan Challenge - Sparkle and shine
Seize The Birthday - Anything goes. This is my second entry this month. I hope that is allowed. I couldn't find any mention of the number of entries allowed in the rules. One has been with the topping and one without.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog today, I really appreciate it.

  1. A stunning card Hilary, I love the foiling, especially on the background with the tiny hearts. I'm sure your daughter loved this special card. As for the storms! We have the wind and a murky low cloud miserable day, so your card with it's foiling and beauty cheered me up.

  13. Wow, this is marvelous! I can see the foil and the shining.
43 years! I can imagine that it feels weird to realize she is that old (young actually).
And yes, the weather here looks like a lot of the weather at yours. Last night it was stormy and now it still is. We don't live on a hill (ofcourse), but we've heard it and sometimes I was afraid that the open window was blowing away (and to tired to go out bed to close that window)

  14. Happy Birthday to your daughter, Hilary! Your card for her is so warm and shows well your love :) Amazing choice of colours and the shining foiling looks so striking! It's clearly visible on your photos but I'm sure that it looks ever better in real life! Love that pinpoint heart panel, so elegant and sweet! Your colouring is awesome too!
I know how distressing is the strong wind, years ago I lived in an attic on top of a hill and I had a covered terrace that had a large window, it always bent pushed by the howling wind! Terrifying!!!

  18. A stunner of a card Hilary. I bet your daughter loved it. So much love goes into our cards we make. Love your pink foiling against the black and i bet it looks even better in the flesh. I have still not plucked up the courage to try my foiling machine (hanging head in shame). Can I ask where you get your foils from please? as Spellbinders don't seem to be stocking any. Thanks xx

  20. One of my all-time favorite cards, Hillary! So gorgeous--every detail! Hoping the winds didn't cause you any problems. It is unsettling when they are really howling. Luckily, it doesn't happen often where we are.

  23. These flowers are gorgeous and your foiling is exemplary, Hilary! I clicked and examined your details as I read your description and I could see some very lovely shine. Stunning color with the black to set it off. We were supposed to have a wind storm last night, but I was awake till almost 4 am (not on purpose) and I did not hear a storm.
