May CAS Mix Up

Welcome to the May CAS Mix Up Challenge, it is a stencil month and our host is the lovely Susan. She wants us to use rainbow ink blending or colours with our stencil.  I had this die cut on my desk as it was a gift in my January Card Chain Challenge card from Jutta in Canada, I thought it would work well as a stencil background for my rainbow card (thanks Jutta).

You simply must check out our guest designer Michele at I card everyone, her cards are simply stunning. It is definitely worth taking the time to visit her, you won't regret it.

I used a piece of Bristol Board because it is really good for ink blending and sponged some white pigment ink through the stencil, before using the straight edge of a piece of copy paper to do my rainbow ink blending, there are a couple of video links on the challenge blog if you need some ideas. I was quite pleased with the soft look of the stencil using this technique. The pigment ink creates a resist so the resulting image is an exact replica of the stencil rather than of the negative space. It was an unexpected look, but I like it.

I die cut my panel and mounted it using nested square dies and then decided I wanted a bit of contrast so I mounted that on black paper cut with a scalloped edge die.

You have until 24th to join us in this challenge. Who can resist rainbow colours and stencils? So I shall look forward to seeing you in the gallery. Don't forget to keep it CAS.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bristol Board; white stamping card; black paper
Ink: Distress
Dies: Waffle Flower nested squares; Create a Smile Scalloped edges; Creative Expressions delightful daisies; Lawn Fawn thanks

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog today, I really appreciate it.

OMG..such creative and beautiful techniques on your Gorgeous rainbow colored card, Hilary. I love your soft colors blended in the round and then cut as a square. Adding your home made circle stencil using a beautiful die was so clever and added a beautiful interest and depth to your background. Simply beautiful die cut flowers in white and then mounted on a black scallop die cut background really made your pastel colored main image pop!!! Wow!!! TFS and for all the creative inspiration, my friend. Love and Hugs..Nancy

Wow! The clever ghostly, doily (?) is so eye-catching surrounded by the stronger color though you maintained the soft ink blending, perfectly. The black background and white diecut add the ideal contrast to the focal point. Truly lovely.

I always end up looking at your cards for the longest time. You give me a lot to think about! This is just so pretty, Hilary! You have some beautiful rainbow geometry with the ghostly doily pattern, and the sweet die cut flowers in white. The black sets it all off in a WOW way. Very cool!

WOW! What a cool design using your stencil, Hilary! I love how the resist has left this faded design of your circle stencil. So pretty! Great contrast with having the black against the rainbow colours. Amazing work! xx
