Christmas Shaker

Today I have a shaker card that I made with two challenges in mind, but before I tell you about my card I have to say how excited I was to find new frame dies.

I have been looking for some interesting frame dies suitable for A6 cards for a very long time as the only ones I had are stitched rectangles, which are great but sometimes it is good to have some variety. Finally I found some by Lisa Horton. There are 2 dies in this set the frame and a flowers outline that cuts out inside the frame when used together. I have just used the frame here, I was so excited to find these that I bought the 3 different sets as each frame has a different design. This is despite me telling myself that I mustn't buy anything else for a while! I don't know why there is very little choice when it comes to A6 cards, I am sure I can't be alone in wanting to see more options. Most UK manufactured nesting dies seem to be made for much larger cards. I have now resorted to buying US sized paper so that A2 dies fit properly. Anyway gripe over, back to my card.

I thought this wintry scene would make a good shaker card if I could make my shaker elements look like snow or stars. I have been making lots of snowflake ornaments recently and each die cut element produced a small circle. I collected up the circles and then glued them back to back so it wouldn't matter which way round they were in the shaker. They are made from 4 different types of sparkly paper. It was quite a fiddle, but I am pleased with the result. I finished off with some stickles glitter glue to give some shine.

Once I had completed the shaker card I decided to make some more cards with this die. For the ones below I used up some scraps of backgrounds.

For the final 3 I just mounted the panels onto some different coloured glitter effect card - so simple. You can see the different frame dies on these cards too. I think you will be seeing them a lot in the future.

My snippets are the shaker elements that are die cut waste, the black card background found in my snippets box and the shaker window.
I am also sharing this at:

Such clever use of those little leftovers from the snowflakes!! You have had a lot of patience gluing them back to back!!!
Love so much the frame and the little sweet scene inside.
Also the other cards with the same design are lovely, my fav is that with the blue and purple background!
Thanks for your words for me. I have some days a bit less busy, so I'm trying to catch up my friends on blogger.

Gosh, you glued those little pieces back to back? My hat is off to you! It turned out so pretty and interesting and fun! All your cards are absolutely beautiful with the different backgrounds, including the glitter paper backgrounds. I'm so happy for you to have found the size of dies you were looking for. If there's one thing I use a lot it's frames and mats, so I can imagine how frustrating it has been. The dies you purchased look like something you'll use a lot!

Hilary, I'm so happy that you've found the dies to suit your desired size - and they're so beautiful as a shaker, or not! That little circle would make a lovely place for a sentiment, or snipped to represent phases of the moon! It's a keeper for sure!
Not sure what size that A6 is - a job for Google, undoubtedly!

Love this die cut and your shimmery snowbanks, Hilary! Shakers are so much fun! Not so much fun to make, but fun to play with.

Totally fabulous shaker cards Hilary - as are the others you made at the same time. Love the frames. I think we're a bit behind the USA - they have so many lovely frame dies for A2 cards. Nice to know that Lisa is filling the gap in the market!

What a beautiful collection of cards Hilary - your die was a real find! As a UK crafter I share your frustration around sizing - you might like to look at a company called Heffy Doodles - they are great at A6 sizing. Thanks for playing along with us over at Festive Friday this week!

I'm really excited about these dies too Hilary as I'm always looking for A6 frame dies and love the central die too (have made a note - thank you for sharing!) The cards you made with them are all wonderful. I'm always impressed at shaker cards (and the patience the crafter needs to make them!) and the ones with the interesting backgrounds and the glittery backgrounds are fabulous too. Vicky x

WOW, Hilary, these are all so so pretty for Christmas! I like the gold one best, no wait, the blue, no wait, that shaker with the fiddly circles inside that are all schparkly ... never mind, they are all beautiful!! I didn't realize about the different sizes/dies/paper, but I'm glad you found a source for what you want. They are awesome border dies! Thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell

All the cards you've made with your new winter scene die are beautiful, Hilary! What a great find! LOVE that you took those tiny, glittery circles and made them double sided for your shaker card. Fiddling about on those! :) But so pretty, especially with the black background. xx

These are all lovely, especially the shaker card. I wondered where the frames came from - Lisa has some really super designs out at the moment and I hadn't noticed the outer frame on these ones.

These are lovely. The dies are too. I have a hard time with shakers for some reason. Wish I could get a good grasp on them. [Bunny]
