Hexagons

Hello,
Today I have 2 cards for Twofer #8 with the prompt geometric.

It has taken me ages to pull these cards together but my ideas eventually galvanised into 2 cards. I attended the Festival of quilts last week and was blown away by the skills showcased in the exhibition and, of course, I ended up adding to my stash of fabric. This led me to think about a quilt effect on a card, so after lots of false starts and many, many passes through the die cutting machine of the single hexagonal die that I chose, I managed to produce this card:

The hexagons are cut out of fabric, I have used my favourite Liberty Print tana lawn fabric from my stash to give a genuine quilt effect. The die cut sentiment is an alphabet set from Concord & 9th. Here is a close up:

For my second card I decided to use the die as a stamp, which I have seen done several times recently. Again, it took me several attempts before I got a look that I was vaguely happy with (I am never really happy as I always think I could do better). I then masked the hexagons and stamped an image inside, which I simply coloured. What do you think?:

Here are my 2 cards together:

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog today, I really appreciate it.
Happy crafting
Hilary

I wish you wouldn't be so hard on yourself, Hilary! These cards take my breath away! That quilt card should be sent to a quilter and framed! It is incredibly custom in every way! And your thinking of you card has ME thinking! I've never used a die to stamp and why not? That's cool enough, but to mask and then stamp the pattern inside the hexagons is just spectacular!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #8! Hugs, Darnell

Wow, Hilary, that really is a quilt ... and it's so striking! I can imagine the wonderful soft texture to all those lovely fabric pieces ... so worth all your hard work! Clever use of the die to stamp your delicate border panel ... the images inside the hexagons are so pretty and so delicately coloured! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Twofer! Anita :)

That first card looks like you cut out a rectangle from a real quilt! Especially because you used fabric! Spectacular! Not quite sure how to use a die as a stamp but your second card looks amazing! Love the different designs you stamped inside! Two phenomenal cards!
Thank you so much for joining us at the Twofer!

What I love about cardmaking is that two people using the same basic shape can come up with completely different ideas. Your patchwork theme on one and the
border design on the other are really beautiful, and the use of fabric works so well, and the small prints look amazing..a quilt on a card. The second has some very pretty stamping within the hexagons too and love the colour, and I have used a die as a stamp once or twice but it is quite difficult to achieve the finish you have. Two gorgeous cards Hilary. x
