The one thing you can rely on is the passing of time, so here we are on the 1st of April which means it is time for another challenge at CAS Mix Up. This month the challenge is mixed media and out host is Linda she has asked us to use paper piecing.
Don't forget to keep it CAS and use stamping, paper piecing and at least one other mixed media element. You will find video links and ideas on the blog.
I know that paper piecing can be extremely fiddly so I looked for a flower stamp that I felt I could fussy cut without too much trouble and decided to have a go with this lovely vase of flowers. I stamped it on vellum with Stazon ink and then stuck a couple of strips of two different washi tapes on some copy paper stamping the image on top. I cut the washi taped image out taking care to be inside the black lines. Once done it was easy to stick the pieces onto the vellum. I recently bought a whole load of washi tape from Under The Rowan Trees just because it was beautiful and I couldn't resist it. I don't often use washi tape on my cards so I am glad that I am changing that.
To add interest to the card and still keep it CAS I dry embossed a piece of white cardstock for the background.
I added a gold sequin with tiny seed beads to the centre of the flowers and secured the vellum on the white panel with foam pads hidden behind the washi tape. I took ages trying to decide how to add the sentiment and eventually thought I would place it over the vase as it meant it covered up the line where the washi tape is joined as it doesn't actually match. I don't think you can see that now unless you look really carefully.
I have used stamping, paper piecing, embossing and die cutting.
Our guest designer this month is Bonnie so don't forget to pay her a visit.
I do hope you find time to join us this month as it is a fun technique. I am looking forward to seeing you in the gallery.

This is such a fun and festive appearing card. Love your inventiveness to make your own “paper”.
What a fun way to use the pretty washi tape and loving the vellum and what a pretty card Hilary x.
This gold embossed Washi tape is so elegant and makes a beautiful vase and flowers, Hilary! I love how you've put them on the vellum! So dreamy and beautiful!
Impressive paper piecing and using washi is brilliant idea. Wish I'd thought of it because it is so effective. Using the vellum to mount your bouquet is equally as clever. Looks lovely on your dry embossed background.
Such a clever and creative Washi Tape vellum paper piecing design, Hilary. TFS your detailed description. Beautiful dry embossed background for added texture and stamped vellum sentiment. Love all your details, my friend. Hugs..Nancy
I love a bit of paper piecing Hilary but have to admit have never thought of using washi tape but how effective it looks, especially with the little hints of gold which will pick up the light.
Have a good Easter, not sure about outside activities as promised to be rather chilly.

You have chosen a very nice washi tape. The small gold elements make your card classy and very beautiful!
Look at you go! Hilary, making your own paper from washi tapes gives you extra kudos in my book!
They are so pretty with all the bits of gold! Well done you, with that perfect fussy cutting!
So pretty perched upon that wonderfully textured panel!

This is gorgeous Hilary! I love the Washi Tape for the paper piecing (don't own any ..... mmmmmmmmmmm!!!) and your fussy cutting is fab! x
Sweet! Love your pretty vase and flowers Hilary. The washi tape was a great idea. The design and colours are so pretty and the shimmer adds a special detail. Great design with your embossed background and vellum layer and sentiment. xx
wow looks great with the washi tape. Love the card :)
Your vase and flowers are just beautiful paper piecing with the washi tape Hillary!
Wow!! This is absolutely stunning! I LOVE it!
I love the washi tape flowers! Just perfect!
Most of my washi tape has melted (stuck together), the problem with a warm climate. Maybe I should store it in the fridge:)
I see how washi tape is a great alternative for the pattern paper - your card looks absolutely gorgeous!
This is so pretty .... I never thought of using washi tape to paper piece, clever idea. I'll definitely be trying that one out! xx
BTW .... thanks for the link to the Rowan Tree ..... cost me a small fortune, but it's stationery so that's OK. Hope you're enjoying the Easter weekend xx
Oooh, that really is some beautiful washi tape! Love the flecks of gold, and I like that you used vellum for the main image panel and sentiment. If I didn't have so much patterned paper I would totally get drawn into all those pretty rolls of washi tape.
Would never thought of using Washi Tape for Paper Piecing Hilary but you did and it looks amazing!
