A Challenge for Kath

Today is a special day over at Allsorts as this weeks challenge is a very special one in memory of Kath, who sadly died in July and was a regular DT member of the team. I decided that I just had to join them. Kath was due to be the host this week so had already chosen the theme (she always worked well in advance). I was only just getting to know Kath as I had just joined the we love Chocolate Baroque DT (where she was also a DT member) when she became ill, but I have discovered that she really loved flowers and tended not to over embellish her cards but liked to mount her image on interesting backgrounds. So this card is my tribute to Kath. Her blog is called plain & simple and is still available to view. The theme she chose is:

*Favourite Stamps with the option of Paper Pieced Flowers*

I have decided that I really like paper piecing and the trick is to use a suitable stamp or it can be very fiddly if the pieces are too small. I searched my stash of stamps and papers for something suitable. The gold on the papers has a lovely sheen that you can just see in the photos.

The flowers are paper pieced along with the large leaves under the large flower. All the other leaves are coloured and the image was fussy cut. I filled the large flower centre with some gems as the stamping and piecing looked a bit messy in the middle and it needed a focal point. I hope I haven't over done it. But what to do about the background? I wasn't sure until I remembered these dies, I hope they work, what do you think?

I am quite pleased with the finished card, not least because it is quite different from my usual style. if you get time, it would be wonderful if you could take part in this weeks Allsorts challenge, just to show how much Kath was appreciated and how much she will be missed.

Also sharing this at:
A place to start #9 patterned paper. I think my pp covers 25% of card
Just add ink - Lines. My background is lot's of lines

This is lovely Hilary and do like how you have varied the DP's used on the flowers to add extra interest. I've been a paper piecing fan for years, mainly because I'm not much of a colourist and was so pleased when I got to know Kath and discover it was her favourite technique as well.

I know she would have loved your take on the theme and so pleased you are sharing it with us at Allsorts challenge, thank you.

You've made the most beautiful card, Hilary. It's not just a card, but a heartfelt tribute to Kath. I didn't know her, but I'm learning she was well loved. Your lovely stamp is a perfect choice for paper piecing. Love the small print papers, and I do see the gold sheen. Super cute flower center. I do love the background, too. Not too much. It reminds me of lattice. Really an amazing card in all ways.

This is a beautiful tribute to your former teammate. I have lost two DT members (on one team) so I know how disconcerting it can be.

I love the paper-pieced florals. You did a wonderful job!
