Today is the first Sunday of September so time for a new challenge over at we love Chocolate Baroque where the theme is:
** Anything goes with the option of special occasion **
I have been lacking inspiration recently and so I just sat down to make this one afternoon and just went with the flow to see what happened. I recently acquired some black water colour paper so decided to start with that and a Chocolate Baroque stamp that I hadn't used yet. This is what happened:
My original idea was to stamp and heat emboss and then water colour the image, but in the end I got out my metallic pencils and coloured it. The effect is subtle, but I think I quite like it. I thought the background was a bit stark so I got a white pencil and gently coloured it. I like how it muted the black and highlighted the texture on the card.
The frame was created by using 2 nesting oval dies, I cut it 3 times and stacked them. The sentiment is from Chocolate Baroque too. I really like it, it is small enough to tuck in and very personal. As I had some splodges on the outside of my image I cut it with the largest oval before adding the frame and then mounted it on black cardstock. I didn't manage a special occasion but I think this one can be for any occasion that happens along, I will just add the appropriate sentiment to the inside.
I do hope I have inspired you to take part in our challenge this month. don't forget there is always a prize and a chance to be a featured designer is you use a Chocolate Baroque stamp.
I am looking forward to seeing you in the gallery.

I had no idea black watercolour card even existed but what a dramatic finish you have achieved using it Hilary and genius idea going over the oval with a white pencil.

Well this card just blew me away. The black with that gorgeous image is so powerful and striking, not only would it work for any special occasion but also for male or female. Just going with the flow has produced an amazing result here. My only complaint that stamp might have fallen into my shopping basket now! :-) xx
Pencils on black watercolor paper looks amazing, Hilary! That image is so elegant and black works perfectly with it!!

This is just beautiful, Hilary! What a great stamp and I love that you used black wc paper and pencils with it. The white on the background really does bring out the texture and gives the paper a whole different look. I've been on the fence about ordering black wc paper as not sure if I have a good coloring medium for it. I think maybe Twinkling H2o's would work. Your card is inspiring!
Hilary, what a super lovely card. Quite stunning in fact. I love the metallic on the black wc card.
Oh wow, this effect is amazing! I just love the black background.

I love stamping on black, it's so dramatic :) your pencil work is gorgeous on the image- wonderful inspiration ♥
I've never seen black watercolour card before only drawing paper. You've used it to such great effect especially with the white over the top. Your stamping and colouring looks wonderful. I find those metallic pens a little hard to use but you've really made me want to try again.
What a fabulous effect hi-lighting the texture on the card with white. Love the image and Love how you've coloured it Hilary. What a striking card and I am a big fan of black cardstock and I am loving this x.
Very striking and beautiful. I love it, gorgeous Black base and metallic colours.
This is a frameable work of art, Hilary! I love that you just sat down, open to anything, and let the muse guide you to this stunning design! I have that paper, too, staring at me, so thank you for this inspiration and thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS! Hugs, Darnell
Amazing card Hilary! LOVE the black with your white embossing the metallic pencil colouring. Adding the white around to the background around the image really makes it stand out. Fabulous design, my friend! xx
How strikingly elegant and absolutely beautiful. I adore applying coloured mediums to dark cardstock as well, and will be remembering your wonder tip of using white to soften the area immediately around a colour image. Thank you for sharing this stunner with us, Hilary.
