CAS Mix Up January

Happy New Year to you, I hope everyone has enjoyed a good break. I think it is nice to just step away from the madness of everything for a few days over Christmas. It is a time to just concentrate on those around you and forget about everything else, it will catch up with us soon enough.

As it is the 1st of the month it is time for a new challenge over at CAS Mix Up. This month we are using watercolour and Jenny is our host. She wants us to use loose watercolouring.

This months guest designer is Karen so do go and check out her fabulous contribution. Welcome Karen, it is a pleasure to have you join us this month.

I have found this technique a little challenging as I am not terribly good at being loose with anything, let alone watercolour, but I have had a go and this is what I have come up with:

I started by doing a very loose wash on a piece of mixed media paper, dabbing more pigment in some places than others. once that was dry I used watercolour pens to draw on my stamp which was liberally spritzed before stamping to create the loose effect.

I thought the stamped effect was OK but it was rather flat so I decided to jazz it up a bit by stamping again on some waste paper then fussy cutting the flowers out and filling them with colour and also a little shine. I think it helped, further interest was added with the frame and little bird that were cut from a watercoloured piece of card I found in my waste background file. A simple sentiment was heat embossed in pale blue to finish it off.

Here is a little reminder of the rules, but the most important is to remember to keep it CAS.

You have until 24th to join us and don't forget to visit the blog to get more inspiration and some links to technique videos to help.

I am looking forward to seeing you in the gallery.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Daley Rowney, mixed media; Hunky Dory, adorable scorable coated card
Ink: Stabilo watercolour pens; Dr Ph Martin's true blue
Stamps: PaperArtsy; Sentiment, Uniko
Dies: Lawn Fawn, stitched rectangle frames; Bird, The Works

Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog today, I really appreciate it.

Hi Hilary,
your card is very beautiful and bright and I love the way you put the flowers on the card.
There is something wrong in Blogger. I can't get the link of the blog in my sidebar. So I miss it every time...

Love your Loose Watercolored background and how you added a bit of stamping, stamped and fussy cut flowers for more layers and interest. Plus your sweet framing, birdie and stamped sentiment. Mounting your main image on a wide colored paper frame was perfect for your CAS Mix Up card, Hilary. TFS your beautiful card and detailed description. So fun trying new techniques...don't you think? Happy Creative New Year, dear friend. Love and Hugs..Nancy

I think you did splendidly and made a beautiful card, Hilary! I'm not very good at doing anything loosely, either, but I love the idea of it. Hoping I can stay caught up with your stamping now that things have settled a bit. Happy new year to you!

I think you captured the essence of loose watercoloring exceptionally well. Love both the color you chose and the sweet flowers you put in the foreground. Especially love the tiny bird and that frame.

Terrifically lovely watercolour-filled greeting. That balmy blue sky is just the thing to help chase the wintertime doldrums away.
