CAS Mix Up Reminder

Today is the 15th so time for a reminder over at  CAS Mix Up. This month we are using watercolour and Jenny is our host. She wants us to use loose watercolouring.

This time I stamped and heat embossed this little foliage heart and then loosely watercoloured it by dabbing some drops of colour with my Zig pens and then spritzing with water and moving the colour around a bit with a brush.

It was very straightforward and I was quite pleased with the look.

I sent this one to my mother in law who celebrated her 87th birthday on the 8th.

I actually made another as well:

This time I allowed the green from the leaves to bleed out into the background and I finished off with some grey splatters from a paint pen. I didn't use any yellow paint it is just the green watered down, but I did put a light blue wash on the paper after I had masked and stamped the image.

I am loving all the examples of loose watercolouring in the gallery so far. Have you added yours yet?

Here is a little reminder of the rules, but the most important is to remember to keep it CAS.

You have until 24th to join us and don't forget to visit the blog to get more inspiration and some links to technique videos to help.

I am looking forward to seeing you in the gallery.

Craftlandia #9

Today I have a card to share for Craftlandia Challenge 9 where the theme is deer. My deer is a die cut and he has the most amazing antlers.

I cut the die twice in white and once in black and glued them together with just a tiny bit of white showing either side. I love the effect it creates. The background is alcohol ink smooched together on yupo paper. These techniques were showcased by Jennifer McGuire in early December. They are so cool that I had to give them a try and the results are impressive. I think so anyway!

I finished it off with a few tiny gems in the centre of the flowers, which you can just see on the close up picture.

Here are a few more examples

Supplies:
cardstock: Black 240gsm; Yupo Paper
Ink: Ranger Alcohol inks and pearl inks
Stamps: Uniko greeting
Dies: Fuzzy Lemon, festive Rudolph Christmas frame

December Card Chain Challenge Reveal

Today is 2nd of the month so time for the Card Chain Challenge big reveal. This month 18 card makers took part and I sent my card to Suze in New Zealand. I have not heard that she has received it yet, so I hope it arrives eventually (I have now heard that it arrived on 29th). It went in the post on 2nd December so that should have been enough time, trouble is, you just never know.

This month it was a tic tac toe, I chose to use the diagonal line from top left to bottom right. Green, stencil, friendship, doodle and red.

You have to look closely but you can just see my doodle on the frame. The card used for that layer is kraft and I used a silver sparkle pen so I think it does get noticed in real life. I sprayed some cosmic shimmer over the inked panel to give it a nice sheen, but unfortunately and as usual, I didn't do it very evenly!

I received this lovely card from Jeanne in MN USA. My picture doesn't do it justice, the light has been terrible recently.

I am looking forward to another year of sending and receiving cards from around the world.
If you would like to take part in the next card chain challenge, you have until 6th to sign up here

We Love Stamping January Challenge

Here we are at the first Sunday of January 2022 so time for a new challenge over at We Love Stamping. The challenge where you can showcase your stamps and your skill at using them.

This month our theme is:

** Anything Stamping Goes with the option of Wings **

This stamp was a lovely Christmas gift so I wanted to use it as soon as possible, I find that's the best way with new things. Don't be tempted to put it aside as you never know when it might surface again! I stamped it in versafine and then masked the dragonfly and the flowers. Then I used distress ink in various colours to create my background. I also used a stencil on the blue edges to create some interest. Once I was happy with the background I coloured the leaves and flowers with my Polychromos pencils.

I couldn't decide whether or not to colour the dragonfly, in the end I decided not, but I re stamped the image and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder to give it a nice shine. The sentiment is from the same stamp set.

You can just about see the shine on the close up photo.

Don't forget there is always a prize to be won. This month the prize is a stamp set by ALL & CREATE which has been kindly donated by Stampers Grove. Why don't you head over to the challenge blog to check it out along with much more inspiration from the rest of the design team? There is also a chance to join us as a guest designer.

CAS Mix Up January

Happy New Year to you, I hope everyone has enjoyed a good break. I think it is nice to just step away from the madness of everything for a few days over Christmas. It is a time to just concentrate on those around you and forget about everything else, it will catch up with us soon enough.

As it is the 1st of the month it is time for a new challenge over at CAS Mix Up. This month we are using watercolour and Jenny is our host. She wants us to use loose watercolouring.

This months guest designer is Karen so do go and check out her fabulous contribution. Welcome Karen, it is a pleasure to have you join us this month.

I have found this technique a little challenging as I am not terribly good at being loose with anything, let alone watercolour, but I have had a go and this is what I have come up with:

I started by doing a very loose wash on a piece of mixed media paper, dabbing more pigment in some places than others. once that was dry I used watercolour pens to draw on my stamp which was liberally spritzed before stamping to create the loose effect.

I thought the stamped effect was OK but it was rather flat so I decided to jazz it up a bit by stamping again on some waste paper then fussy cutting the flowers out and filling them with colour and also a little shine. I think it helped, further interest was added with the frame and little bird that were cut from a watercoloured piece of card I found in my waste background file. A simple sentiment was heat embossed in pale blue to finish it off.

Here is a little reminder of the rules, but the most important is to remember to keep it CAS.
